Trash! Winter 2016 Anime Season

What's Actually Good? | Winter 2016 Anime Season (January) | Trash!

Are you tired of going through shit anime series every season? Why do you have to go through hours of generic characters and panties shots to find one decent show?

Well Midnight City Nerd has a solution for you!

Here is a list of non-bullshit show for the Winter 2016 Anime Season (January), while these series not guaranteed to be great, they certainly stand out from the Hyper cute, Giant sword wielding, Senpai please notice, SAO like setting, "It's not like I like you" crop of every season.

Assassination Classroom (TV) 2

Synopsis: Class 3-E has only two missions, pass the exams and kill their teacher by graduation. This group of misfits have been tasked with saving the world from their tentacle monster teacher, who might just be the greatest teacher ever?
Also he can move at 20 mach speed, good luck!

Studio: Lerche

Genre: Action, Comedy,Shounen,School

Thoughts: The first season was great, humongous cast of interesting character, that were just starting to shine near the end of the season. Koro-sensei is always hilarious and making references. I expect more comedic madness in this season.

Dagashi Kashi (TV)

Synopsis: Son of a famous rural sweet shop owner, Shikada Kokonotsu is faced with a dilemma. His father wants him to take over the family business but Kokonotsu wants to be a Manga artist. One day a weird girl appears and she has one objective, to make Kokonotsu take over the business and have his father, join her families company.

Studio: Feel

Genre: Comedy, Shounen

Thoughts: Fan of the comedy in this series, I read the manga and enjoy it quite a bit. Feel studio is sorta known for releasing trash (KissxSis, Outbreak Company, Da Capo) but I must say it's really nice looking trash, so in regards of animation, it should be enjoyable.

Ajin (TV)

Synopsis: Immortality can be a scary thing, Kei Nagai learns this after he gets hit by a truck and finds out that he is a "Demi-Human" someone who can not die. In the public's eye, he is a monster and people like him are hunted by the government. Horrified by this discovery, he runs away with his friend and so his journey begins.

Studio: POLYGON PICTURES

Genre: Seinen, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural

Thoughts: Okay I know it is going to be animated with CGI but this is the same studio who made Knights Of Sidonia, which honestly might be the best looking CGI in anime at the moment.

Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi (TV)

Synopsis: Struggling manga author Satoru Fujinuma is beset by his fear to express himself. However, he has a supernatural ability of being forced to prevent deaths and catastrophes by being sent back in time before the incident occurred, repeating time until the accident is prevented. One day, he gets involved in an accident that has him framed as a murderer. Desperate to save the victim, he sends himself back in time only to find himself as a grade-schooler one month before fellow classmate Kayo Hinazuki went missing. Satoru now embarks on a new quest: to save Kayo and solve the mystery behind her disappearance.

Studio: A-1 Pictures

Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Seinen, Supernatural

Thoughts: I am not too familiar with this series but I am familiar with the author, Kei Sanbe, He wrote this obscure gem called Mouryou no Yurikago or Cradle of Monsters. I am confident that this show will prove to be awesome.

Durarara!!x2 Ketsu

Synopsis: I wish I could summarize this series but it is practically impossible. It is the third part of the second season of a Durarara!! It's a vast intertwining story and a convoluted cluster-fuck of awesomeness. Just watch the previews installments.

Studio: Studio Shuka

Genre: Action, Mystery, Shounen, Supernatural

Thoughts: Although I love this series, it does suffer of a bad case of slow pacing yet I can't help but feel excited whenever a new episode drops. I want to see what happens next to these eccentric and captivating characters, who are thrown into a city with gangs, monsters and all kinds of Insane personalities.

Dimension W (TV)

Synopsis: In the year 2071, the world's energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional eletric-field conductors- "coils"-that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X,Y, and Z dimensions.
In this world, unofficial "illegal" coils harness powers that the police can't hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating Repo-man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.

Studio: 3Hz x Orange

Genre: Sci-Fi, Seinen, Action

Thoughts: This one looks good but it could well, just turn out to be horrendous. the character and universe's design are gorgeous, the premise seems to be worthy of becoming a classic. Only time will tell.

Anime News | Berserk Chapter 342

Berserk Chapter 342 |The Boatmageddon is Over

Kentaro Miura gets off his ass.

ABOUT F@$%ING TIME!!!
In Chapter 278, After a epic battle,Guts set sail along with his crew with the destination of Elf Island, in hopes of curing Casca's mental state. This Chapter was released some time around August 2006.

It has been 9 years and 64 chapters later, Guts and his crew finally touch land.

I'm surprised you made it at all.
I haven't been a fan since day one or even since chapter 278, its only been 4-5 years since I watched the Anime adaption which led me to read the manga, Once I watched that, now infamous ending. So I have been waiting for a few years but I digress. The raw's of the chapter had been floating around for a few days now and I believe yesterday a translated version was finally released. The Issue was great, we got to see all of the members of the crew and ends on a sweet cliffhanger, with Guts about to take out an this magic scarecrow thing. This issue was used to set momentum for the later releases, since the pacing was somewhat slow but I can't really complain. Even in those 9 years we still received quality issues, although the lack of everyone's favorite swordsman was obvious. the plot was still moving, Rickert's arc in Falconia, which was the most recent section of the manga, was good.

Mostly because we got to see Rickert interact with Griffith and  ask him "what did the five finger say to the face?"
GET RICKITY RICKITY REKT!!!

But what does this latest issue mean?

I believe this marks the beginning of berserk's new wave, monthly issue are going to attract new fan's and I only hope that the positive response motivates Mr.Miura to continue providing us with one of the greatest manga's ever.

Shit maybe we even get another Anime adaption, this time without CGI please.

Manga Recommendation #1

Kengai Princess | High School Love and Chubby Cheeks?

Do you have a soul? then I think you'll like this one.

Kengai Princess is a Shoujo manga by Aida Natsumi, a relatively unknown artist at the moment. This Manga is set in your basic Japanese High School setting, There's the cool kids and the kids that usually read manga's just like this one. That's where Meguro Mito comes in, She is a kind, awkward and mildly lewd nerdy girl. who is socially inept and usually lost in delusions of being cool. She wishes to have the classic high school romance experience, although her crush is a character from a Dating Sim. She spends most of her time obsessing about the game along with her two best friends Haru and Maru but the life of a nerd isn't an easy one.

She has been bullied for a while now, because of her insecure nature and well, her chubby cheeks. Megucchi (Her cute nickname) isn't the most attractive character ever (Although I think she is Adorable) Some of her expression are guaranteed to cause uncontrollable fits of laughter.  One day as she was being bullied, she is saved by the most handsome lad in school and so her love story begins.

I wont spoil anymore.

There's only 10 chapters translated at this moment, I am looking forward to reading this one, up till now it has been such a heart-warming experience, cute characters, great premise and cringe filled comedic moments. I don't know where the story is going but I hope it continues as it is now. I predict this one is gonna get a Anime adaption really soon.

Recommendation Score:

"Them feels tho" out of  5
